Seussical Auditions Announced
Oh, the places you'll go! Auditions for Seussical Jr—this year's Maysville Players summer youth production--is next week. It's open to all in grades 6 and up. There are 20 roles….including Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, the Whos and other Dr. Seuss favorites. All roles require singing. Auditions are June 4 and 5 at 3 p.m. at the Opera Theatre, 116 West Second Street. Please prepare a short song of your choice. You will also be asked to read from the script and complete a simple movement audition. Production dates are July 31, August 1, 2 and 3. See you there!

Mine Rescue Contest Set For June
The Southeast Central Kentucky Mine Rescue Association will host a mine rescue contest in Maysville June 4-6. The event will feature experienced and novice teams competing in mine rescue, bench, gas tests and first aid. Trophies will be presented at a banquet after the contest. Offices Closed For Monday Holiday
The following Mason County Offices will be closed Monday for the Memorial Day holiday: Judge-Executive's office, Treasurer's office, Sheriff's office, Road Department, Maysville-Mason County landfill, Recycling Center, and the Garbage Collections office. Mason County garbage will be picked up as normal. City of Maysville offices will be closed Monday. Maysville transit service will run Monday. Trash service for Monday will be picked up on Tuesday.

City Offices Closed Monday
City of Maysville offices will be closed Monday for the Memorial Day holiday. Maysville City Transit will run Monday. Monday's trash will be picked up on Tuesday.
Rec Park Pool Opening Delayed
The Maysville-Mason County Rec Park pool will not open this weekend because of mechanical problems. The opening date for the pool has been pushed to the weekend of May 31st.

Legends Headline Downtown Block Party Friday Night
The Legends Rock N Roll Comedy Show is going to be one of the highlights of a block party Friday night on middle Market Street as part of the Buffalo Trails MultiSport Races. According to their website, "The harmonies that characterize the music of the 50's, 60's and early 70's are accentuated by the powerful and precise voices of THE LEGENDS. Combined with high energy choreography, professional costumes, funny props, comedy and audience participation. MultiSport Volunteer Meeting Tonight
This weekend is the annual Buffalo Trails MultiSport Race in Maysville and surrounding environs. The race consists of a Triathlon (swim, bike and run), a Duathlon (run, bike and run) and a 5K run with a portion of the proceeds going to the Relay For Life. You don't have to be a hardbody to take part, either. Volunteers are needed for the event. A meeting is going to be held tonight at 7pm at the Mason County Extension Office. African Choir To Perform In Maysville Tonight
23 Members of a United Methodist children's choir from Uganda, Africa will perform tonight at Trinity United Methodist Church in downtown Maysville at 7. The concert is free and open to the public. While they are here, the choir will get a taste of Maysville hospitality with trips to area schools and museums.
Rain Rain Go Away--At Least Until We Get These Games Played
The 39th district baseball and softball tournament games were rained out Monday and have been rescheduled for today. In the softball tournament at the Maysville-Mason County Rec Park, Mason County plays Saint Patrick at 5:30pm. In the baseball tournament at Bracken County, Saint Patrick plays Augusta at 5:30pm, followed by Mason County against Bracken County at 7:30pm. If you can't make it to the game, you can hear it on WFTM AM 1240.

MCHS Registration This Week
Registration for the 2008-2009 school year at Mason County High School starts today. Senior registration is from 3:30 to 6:30pm today, Junior registration is from 8 to 11am Tuesday, Sophomore registration is from 1 to 4pm Tuesday, and Freshmen register Wednesday from 3:30 to 6:30pm.

Nuns On The Run--To The Washington Opera House
The Nuns are ready for you! The Maysville Players production of the hit musical comedy "Nunsense" begins its run tonight at the Washington Opera House. Tonight is a special "pay what you will" preview at 7pm, where a minimum $5 donation will get you in to enjoy the show. Normal showtimes are this Friday and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm, with shows also running next week. Drug House Odyssey Starts Today
The 7th annual Drug House Odyssey is today and tomorrow at Maysville Community & Technical College. The Odyssey is a live drama delivering a message about drinking and driving. The drama will be open to the public today from 6 to 7:30pm. It will be presented to around 900 high school students tomorrow. If you want to see the horrors of impaired driving without having to live through it, this is a powerful way to get the message across, to both youth and adults.

The Mason County Library board of trustees will meet today at 4:15pm in the library meeting room. The meeting was moved up a week because of Election Day. Tomorrow the library Book Discussion Club will meet at 10am. This month's title is "Peony In Love" by Lisa See.

The Fernleaf Highland Volunteer Fire Department is having a fish fry Sunday May 18th from 11 to 2 at the fire hall. They're located on Slack Pike across from the BP truck stop. All proceeds benefit the fire department.

Next Gallery Hop In The Works
Last month's "Gallery Hop" was so successful that another one is in the planning stages. The date for the next hop will be June 16th from 6 to 9pm. For the uninitiated, art galleries downtown open their doors and invite you to tour the downtown area and see the many displays of local talent the city has to offer. Donkey BBall In Fieldhouse Tonight
The Mason County High School Technology Student Association will sponsor a donkey basketball game tonight at 7 at the Fieldhouse. Participants will include local politicians and Mason County teachers and students. Advance tickets are $5. Tickets at the door are $7.

Tassels away! Graduation on the Maysville campus of Maysville Community & Technical College is Friday at 6:30pm. Weather permitting, the graduation will be held on the front lawn. Never ones to take a break, summer classwork at MCTC begins Monday-4 week intercession and first 8 week session.

Youthfest 2008 Is Saturday
Youthfest 2008 is Saturday from 10am to 5pm at Rotary Park in downtown Maysville. Events include Maysville's Most Talented, Diaper Derby, Beauty Pageant, Pet Fashion Show, Carnival Games, and a free African drumming and dancing performance by Bi-Okoto from 5 to 6pm.
A Visit From The Queen
The Delta Queen will make a stop at Limestone Landing tomorrow from 8am to 1pm. The Queen will make several stops in town now through October. Unfortunately, no boarding is allowed. The future of the Delta Queen is up in the air, as you can read in today's Cincinnati Enquirer:

Cruise-In Will Kick Off Asparagus Festival
The kick-off to this year's May's Lick Asparagus Festival will be a cruise-in Friday, May 16th from 5 to 8pm. The cruise-in will be at the site for the new May's Lick fire station next to May's Lick Market on US 68.
